TRAINING SCHEME UP & RUNNING

A training scheme has recently got underway to allow school leavers to make their first steps on the career ladder.

A number of new recruits, all aged 16-19 joined the firm recently. All are working with experienced members of the Muldoon workforce to gain an experience of the company and its entire manufacturing process.

Over the next two years, the teenagers will gain experience in each area of the manufacturing process from concept to completion.

The idea is to produce a new generation of talented engineers who will be involved in the future of Muldoon.

The company teamed up with Dungannon FE College to devise the two year programme. During the course of their training, they will develop skills in all areas including welding, hydraulics, electrical and air fitting and testing, general fitting and assembly, machine operation, finishing and pre delivery inspection before being able to specialise in a particular area that matches their skills and interests.

Upon completion of the two years training, the recruits will gain an NVQ Level 2 in engineering and may progress for a third year to NVQ Level 3 and ultimately to HNC/ HND level.

Muldoon are one of a number of companies to recently benefit from an employment grant from Invest Northern Ireland.

This assistance allowed us to create new jobs to accommodate the increase in business due to increased export. The new positions were in place within two months of applying to the fund and production capability has subsequently increased.
